"Being Muslim in prison" I have to share with America how Muslim are treated in State and Federal prison. The Muslim population in prison is fairly large. It consists of Sunni, Muslim, Moorish American and Nation of Islam. I'm a Sunni Muslim. I follow the Holy Qur'an, and the Sunnah of prophet Muhammad peace be unto him. We are required to make 5 Salats a day. That's 5 prayers at a fixed time. But the Muslims are hated because most of the guards were in the military and over in the middle east fighting the Taliban and Isis. And in most cases lost friends and family in war. So as they come back to America and get jobs as police and guards in correctional centers they bring some hatred home with them. And also they bring mental disorder such as P.T.S.D. So they refuse to treat Muslims fair. On a daily basis the Muslim is treated bad. We are harassed because we want to pray with our brothers. Our request for equal time and resources are always denied. Our books are often damaged and thrown away by staff and other inmates. Praying becomes a task in itself with officers going so far as to knock on the door when the Muslims are praying.
