While in solitary confinement, a prisoner was brought in, I only heard him or it. There was groaning and growling, as one that was suffering from a great injustice. Next, I clearly heard the correctional guard, cursing and pounding on something or someone; and there was screams and yelling from undeniable pain. I soon realized, it was an assault on an inmate by the guards. I yelled to intervene, and was threatened to be next for a whipping, if I didn't shutup and mind my business but, the threat did no good, that's how severe and touching was this guy's pain and suffering. After about three minutes, the groans and screams ceased and the guards departed, leaving the convict in a solitary cell and appararently forgetting their threatening promise to me; which was very much appreciated. About thirty minutes thereafter, the groaning returned. I yelled to check on him and to try finding out, what was the whipping about, all to no avail, his lips were too fat...also, seemingly his jaw was fractured from the way he strained and struggled to speak...I could not understand but, what I was able to, I did, and that was maneuver some contraband (pills) to him...within ten minutes he no longer groaned. My thoughts were, the pain killers put him to sleep, moreso than aided his pain. Either way, it was a good thing, because being sleep or unconscious, he's unmindful of the pain, of course, the diagnosis of a layman. What appeared to be twenty four hours later, he was moving around and trying to thank me. I sent him more and told him; while is body is mending, it's best he sleep.... 2. As the convict slept, I tried to figure out whom he was. His struggling voice reminded me of someone whom I thought I knew but, I told myself:naw it couldn't be him because he was a Trusty and he was the Wardens favorite "boy", and that meant much "down south" where 99% of our keepers are white "Bosses" and 75 of the prisoners were black "niggers". So the love this trust, which I had in mind, was highly favored...very reliable and domesticated...the only way it could be whom I thought it to be, he would killed someone, dear to the warden. Several days passed and the convict begin to speak. And I was supremely shocked! It was he, the Trusty. The wardens favorite "boy". My reason for acknowledging him as the warden's favorite and reliable was mostly based on shared knowledge and observation. This assciate convict was straddled the fence, that is, he wanted to be a con, at the same time with the "system" because of the crumbs and the fun that was permitted to the "goodones". As Trusty he travelled all the "ways": high ways, freeways etc.,...most times he'll be gone for days and days;seldomly did he stay in the penitentiary but,for sure, at least 16 hours everyday, he'll be miles away. The warden really "trusted"him, he was lying, stealing and it was whispered, he was "killing", for the warden. Now,that which was shared with me, begun to add up:he confronted the warden, letting him know, he was no longer willing to do free dealing; and demanded a piece of the pie. The pie was morer than large enough to share but, the warden was offended by an illiterate black prisoner asking for a piece of his pie, inspite of all the lying and stealing this convict did and was doing for him...this is when the warden decided his "favorite boy" must die! Before this "decision", I had observed, the trusty was all the way in with his "bosses", he had it so easy, everyday he wore a grin, smoked free world cigs and drink seagram's gin. 3. This Trusty was, what teh cons called, "straight in", because he was like a king in the penitenitriary. He travelled interstate and instrastate, his senence was equivalent to a life sentence. Down south, the wardens run their prison as they see fit, so, if a prisoner has a life sentence and the warden want to send you to make an out of state hit--he can do that. The trusty knew the nature of the snake, that's one reason the warden had him on the "take". It is said:birds of the feather flock togather, regardles of the weather when they are tough like leather;which the warden and trusty were. It was shared with me,the warden told his trusty, that he had gotten filled with greed, asking for a piece of his action; which he didn't need. He accused his trusty of getting "uppity, so uppity he stop saying "please". They say, he forgot his place and race...got out of his place; and they promised to shorten his days because, they didn't like, what they called his "new" ways. It was shared with me, that everything was kosher, long as he gave the warden all the glory. I want it to be known, this convict was not bad nor even strong he was just an obedient dude, trustworthy and loyal; that recognized he was being misUsed; and made his desire known but it was misunderstood by the warden to be saying, "I8m grown". But, in honesty, he was no longer with the roll of "Uncle Tom". He was experiencing an awakening. He start to SEE how the tax payers were being smoked screened, misused, mis-schooled and fooled; cheated and mistreated by the prison system adminstration working in tandem. with the politicians, appropriating funds for ghost projects so,like previously stated, "the pie was morer than large enough to share"/ They have tax payers paying for artificial debts created by the state. Thus, I understood him wanting a monetary stake; and this was why his warden want to and was going to "blow him away". Boom!Boom! Inspite how much he was stealing transporting and concealing, agricultrue, clothes, livestock, etc.,.in big quantities, that'll shock you out of your socks! 4. The trusty had given me much to think about. I saw he was a favorite trusty til the warden decided he was "musty", as they would say. The warden figure he couldn't use him anymore, at least he thought so. A couple officials took him to a place called "the bottom", that's where they would take one when the plan is to kill him or them/us. So they took him to the bottom and made the gun smoke. He was shot but he survived; and killed both officials, took their truck and drove to the sheriff office, turning himself in and reporting what had happened. The sheriff gave him back to the prison system; when the guards brought him back to the prison, they beat him unmercifully. I've already shared the beating the guards gave him, just suffice to say, the guards, "flat weed him like a blade of grass"! He was charged with a double murder, for what was self defense...and as I said earlier, before all of this, the trusty was "straddled the fence". Here's something which was shared: The trusty and warden was discussing his enterprise;when a prisoner took them by surprise and didn't try to hide that which he had heard...it was shared with me, "for the warden" he killed...to protect his enterprise from being scrutinized by the F.B.I. I was told: when the trusty stop acting like a "Tom"(house ni---- --the warden went and got his gun they got in the truck and rode to the bottom, not far from where we would pick cotton. They tried to make him dig his grave, he stalled to get an opportunity to attack with the spade; which he did but, he caught a slug in the waist, though he successfully knocked the gun from the wardens hand, in the struggle he proved to be the better man. He said "drippin'wit blood, I proved to be a stud;wit out utterin'a word and inspite of my love for my bosses,my actions was like tractions,it was me or them, I turned the barrel and made it bark, all you heard was was a gargle and hark;all nature loan an ear we all were grip'd wit fear,I saw a rabbit lookin'in silence also a dear...As the trusty told me his story, from his eyesfell the tears this showed a love for "massa" that came through the years. Devotion showed by the way the trusty start crying;and when he told me the foregoing,I don't think he was lying.
