Pan-African Strategy and Policy Research Group The Most Revolutionary Act of our Time Is TO BE AFRICAN and To TELL THE TRUTH by Asar Imhotep Amen,Ph.D. No amount of individual achievement or the gaining of personal acceptance by whites on the part of Black individuals, will remove from them the stigma of their membership in a powerless "race". It will not truly enhance their personal power or freedom. The fact that they have to deny an intrinsic part of their being and identity to achieve "success" and white approval means that a crucially important part of their full humanity has to be negated, that their authentic sense of power and efficacy, their need to be loved unconditionally remains ache-ingly unfulfilled. It connotes that they are isolated and defenseless because they must reject the ability of their group to protect and shelter them in times of social and personal upheavals; that their power is a counterfeited, delegated power, conditionally, tenuously and arbitrarily based on their willingness to ally themselves with whites in their genocidal assault against the interests and lives of their Afrikan brethren whose fellowship they disdain. The racially isolated Afrikan individual will learn too late that he cannot aid and abet the destruction of his "former" race without ultimately aiding and abetting his own personal destruction. It goes without saying that the present is where we get lost-if we forget our past and have no vision of the future. But, obviously, those Afrikans who believe they can achieve peace in the enemy's camp have forgotten who they are dealing with. They have forgotten the violence with which others assailed our efforts to this effect in the past. What happened to Black Wall Street, M.O.V-.E., the Panthers, the Wanubian Nation, etc., is neither abnormal nor unique. Europeans have put forth every effort to destroy every attempt by Afrikans to establish any spatial independence that would allow us to question their authority to rule over our lives with impunity. Europeans cannot allow anyone to separate themselves from their cultural or economic order. As with all else,it is a zero sum question for them. They cannot tolerate the development of a rival power in their midst, even if that rival power has no threatening intent. Liberation is a Question of Consciousness 2 Those Afrikans who believe that they can just remove themselves from the European presense by purchasing property in a European nation-state have forgotten that Europeans take what space they want within and outside their nation-states at will. Historically, they have no qualms about using religious, economic, political and/or especially military means to this end. They never have and there is no reason to believe that they ever will. That is their tradition. It is the tradition upon which their so-called "civilization" is built. So, unless there is an effective means to defend land from their consistent encroachments, at any given point in time they can and will put their foot down and "re"claim it as theirs. Independence cannot operate without some form of organized, responsible and operative self- defense. Europeans expand into a universe which they see as theirs, which can be owned ny no one else. Moreover, even if we could believe that they would accept contain- ment on their rightful "share" of land, their actions against the environment, life, airwaves,etc., in that space will continue to pollute everyone else's space. Real, physical, impervious borders do not divide the atmosphere between nations and Europeans see no need to be responsible for their excesses ans waste. To respectfully share space has proven an impossibility because European culture is inherently corruptive and corrosive to all others. And this must be studied with the understanding that European and Afrikan culture are inherently incompatibl. Western (code word for white) society means chaos to the African spirit. In order for that spiritto thrive, order must be restored. And, an order that never existed cannot be restored to a society fundamentally based on disorder. The European and African world-views are so different, in such crucial aspects, that explanations of the African-world view that use European definitions are blatantly absurd. The African world-view is characterized by Unity, Harmony, Spirituality, and organic interrelationship. The European world-view is characterized by compartmentalization (isolation, separation), control (power relationship), conflict (tension), materialism, and mechanical relationship. As a result,traditional African society is a microcosm of the natural cosmic environment, in which people are actively and closely involved and with which they identify; whereas western society is an unnatural technically efficient order, set within an artificially materialized universe, in which people experience painful alienation, both from the modesin which they are forced to function (institutions) and each other. These are the basic and fundamental incompatibilities that are not altered by peace accords, civil rights bills, laws, American citizenship, demilitarized zones or military containment. Certain elemental aspects of the African world-view cannot be negotiated without compromising its integrity. Integrity is essential to the existence and viability of any worldview. Therefore, the spiritual, cultural, mental and physical dissimilarities which place us at odds with the European way are irresolvable without destroying our worldview. They are still their ancestors, as we are ours. The fear of people of color, especially Black people will rally the white supremacists to look at several options for managing "population growth". The options are: A) Reduce the nonwhite population through disease, prisons, poverty, wars, military service, famine and genocide (push birth control in communities of color). 3 B) Increase the white population through fertility and cloning programs (out law abortion). C) Go to war with the largest nonwhite populations before they can reach maximum power levels. D) Establish colonies on other planets and leave earth as a deserted wasteland. The root cause of all the problems facing Black people is white supremacy domination. Black people are wholly dependent and totally controlled by white domination. All of the social, political and economic situations are a direct result of living under white domination for 400-plus years. The preceding list of options contains correct statements. Correct and exact language is discouraged, condemned, rerouted and labeled as racist. Remember, when dealing with white supremacist, the real issue is always power, based on racial domination. The objective is control through deception. White Supremacist Arrogance at Its Best It is a well known and accepted truism that a people who live by the sword will die by the sword. Empires maintained by force do not last. When people hate and fear you for what you have done, they learn to obey you out of that terror. But when people love you out of appreciation, they work with you out of respect. Their respect is for you and not for what you can do against them. Europeans live in fear of what they have done to virtually everyone. Day in and day out a righteous retaliation from others haunts them. Day in and day out it will continue to do so until they can either erase what they have done from historical record or make everyone feel that we are equally evil and their crimes were no more than that of others, given equal opportunity. For the moment, however, since they have yet to fully impose this tranformative miracle on our minds, they have no choice except to continue to maintain their empire by force or lose it. However, compliance, whether from obedience through fear or respect through earned appreciation, does not give a time frame for how long agroup will be with- out a self-determining indepence. People can remain mentally and/or physically enslaved indefinitely. There are no hard and fast rules for release from a mental and physical enslavement. The only rules are those which a people make for themselves when when they are determined to be free. The European learned this a long time ago. He knows that the secret to defeating an enemy is by conquering their mind and then letting them assist you in mentally and physically enslaving themselves and their community. In other words, "the ultimate weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed". 4 If this were not true, how could Europeans continue to sell rebellious literature and music that could potentially center and unite us against them? How is it that they can still comfortably promote and market the message of Pulic Enemy, K.R.S.One, Common, Mos Deff, Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, KAM, A Tribe Called Quest, Gil Scott Heron and the Last Poets, along with the writings of Malcolm X, Dr.Cheikh Anta Diop, Ayi Kwei Armah, Chinweizu, Willie E. Abraham,Ngugi Wa Thiong'o and Frantz Fanon, without fear of retribution. It is only because they are so cocky in their arrogance and secure that our mental enslavement will enable them to coninue profiting from our misdirected anger that they can do this without fear of a meaningful rebellion. They know that most of us will not act against them because they have successfully convinced us that consciousness is no more than an accumulation of trivia or over- intellectualized debate. Subconsciously ingrained fear keeps our silent majority from defiantly confronting Europeans. They know we believe, as they have taught us, in showing love for our devout enemy,even over our children. Equality for Black folks world wide can come only through the emergence of some Black nations as Great Powers. In order to survive economically and politically, Pan-Afrikanism must set itself a new agenda for the twenty-first century. Global equality is accessible only through raw, naked power-power that is economic, yes, but power that is also military. All other avenues have been tried and found wanting. The military component is perhaps the key component in relation to membership in the circle of great powers. Now, the military need not be omnipotent, it need only be a protective shield. For this is where the concept of finite deterrence comes in. Required merely is the military ability to scare off a would-be-aggressor. An Afrikan state need not be as strong as its adversaries in numbers of material re- sources and firepower to avoid annihilation. It need only be capable of retaliatio nand to make its resolve to use that capability credible to white imperialism, to let the white world know we mean business. It is unlikely that any military threat to Afrika will come from non-Arab Asia any time during the twenty-first century. Military power is needed to overcome the fear that has paralyzed Black people for so long and that has made Afrika a cipher in the diplomatic power equation. There is no ducking the need, therefore, to acquire weapons of mass destruction. Any Black nation which truly aspires to Great Power Status must have them. The news of full-power weaponry at Black disposal would mean that our people would no longer be ignored during international emergencies. It would inspire confidence in Black folk wherever they live. We would know that our interests would be taken seriously. Black diplomatic input would not only be sought, it would finally have some clout. Just knowing that the hand of a Black statesman is poised somewhere over an Armageddon button,like the hands of white statesmen have been for decades, would neutralize the fearful inferiority some of us feel. It would also inspire some respect in the white man, causing him to fear us for a change. None of this is possible without a Black-controlled state-of-the-art defense industry, capable of manufacturing the sinews of war.It is indeed difficult to function as a great power, if one has to purchase one's weapons from one's adversary.
