GOD HAD FAITH IN US FIRST by Dortell Williams "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed" - every single one of us -- "because his compassions fail not" (Lam. 3:22). At the same time God shows mercy on whom he chooses (Ex 33:19). We see God's wrath against Uzzah after he tried to save the ark from falling. David was displeased with God for killing Uzzah (II Sam 6:7-9). Likewise, God killed Annaias and Sapphira for trying to deceive the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:1-11). So God requires that we have faith in Him. The faith of Abraham, as it were. Yet God had faith in us first; we'll get to that. Interesting that God had mercy on Moses after he murdered the Egyptian. God knew the potential that he had placed in him, and it was all about going forward (Ex 2:11-14). God also had mercy on Paul of Tarsus, though Paul consented to Stephen's death. Paul was a murderer, but God had mercy on him as well. Yet David was the worst murderer of them all. In modern American culture, David's murder of Uriah would be equivalent to a murder for hire. A murder worthy of death. What made David's murder so much worse was that as king, David was expected to be an example, plus he knew the expectations of the Law. Nevertheless, God had mercy on him. God knew the potential that He had instilled in each one of them, in every one of us. God even used the lineage of David -- a murderer -- to deliver Jesus. God had faith in these people, He has faith in all people, to intervene. Each of these murderers became great interventionists. God used people to write the Bible, to promulgate the Gospel, and to act on behalf Williams / God Hed Faith in Us First Page 2 of others -- as Martin Luther King did so famously. The entire Bible is a book of intervention. This is why the Church must intervene in support of S.B. 300 -- particularly for those who did not murder. Paul warned us that world governments are corrupt (I Cor 6:1). We have to beware of them. Martin Luther King said silence is complicity. God expects us to intervene on behalf of others; that is our calling.
