Celldweller Journal: "Fractured mirror of society" (Publish) Author: Sekou Jamaa Askari VI date: 8-15-13 "Black August" (Entry fifteen) After being captured and convicted, Essay's I've been engaged in the adventure's of trying to understand how this world really truly works, every since -- being enrolled into California's Institutions of 'higher education'. Where my re-educational' journey first began at. We can all get an education at a number of different college's. But college tuition is,'out of reach' for most people who come from my enviornment. Having the money to afford college, keep's most of us, excluded from that option. Especially, if we are'nt a talented athlete. Our ambition to pursue an academic education becomes 'disrupt' by bad influences all around us. The 'strong' temptations and peer pressures of our surroundings, along with the lure of all the instant, immediate gratification, that we are immersed in, on a daily basis, adding to that, we don't feel that society sees us or hear's us, feeling 'undervalued'. This pushes us into the streets awaiting arms. Where, we begin to gain an intimate knowledge of how the 'subterranean' world works, knowing nothing else, or learning nothing else about, the "real" world. eventually, we the 'stereotypical', lower social-class Black, your male soon becomes a 'man of confusion', uneducated about the world we're living in, facing a hostile environment, not even sure if it's our own fault or, not, that we have attracted the hostilities of society. All of our lives, we are 'taught', and 'treated' like inferior, weaker males. We, look around for something to 'blank' for our predicament. Like me, for example, eventually I started to identify with those who were 'lost' in a state of confusion like, I was, increasingly more frustrated. Family relationships desintegrating all around us; 'endless' series of failures and misfortunes, selfhatred grows and confidence weakens. But, nobody with a 'spark' of self-respect left. inside them. willingly submits or give-in to being filed away on a back shelf like an [text cut off, needs to be rescanned.] Transcribed by Peter MacDonald, January 24, 2017.
