Celldweller Journal; "Fractured mirror of society" 'Publish' Author: Sekou Jamaa Askari date: 8-17-13 "Black August" (Entry seventeen) Each and every one of us, cell dweller's has a personal and unique story to tell. In light of everything that I've said here in, my translation or interpretation of the black male's experience. Here inside these pages, I only attempt to lay-out the heart of the problems, and my understanding of the answers. There will always be 'exceptions', those black males that do not, 'fit' anywhere close to what I described here, No doubt about that. Not all of us succomb to the challenges or become products of our circumstances. We all, get to become the final decision maker in our lives, we decide our own thinking we all, decide our own behavior. So, we all don't think or act the same. Truthfully, we do not have equal intelligence, or equal abilities, we don't all have the same equal athletic talent's and we all, don't sing or rap either. Not, everyone of us know how to articulate ourselves, or communicate our thought's well. All of us, aren't literate or know how to write well. But, the role of, those who have been 'fortunate' enough to 'aquire' such skill's and talent's, should be there for the ones who haven't been so fortunate. This is how, my mentor's taught me, to be. There are two types of 'thinking' you find, dominating prisons. Vast majority of cell dweller's, accept the stereotype or assumptions made about us, that society label's us. Then, you've got the small percentage of us who refuse to accept the stereotypes and labels assigned to us. Because, we learn that, the 'prison system' can't defeat or have a victory over the prisoner, or cell dweller, if the cell dweller never surrenders his/her will. Just because the system has successfully contained our whole body, inside these cell's they assume that, they have contained our whole body, inside these cell's they assume that, they have contained all that makes up, the person.
