" Dehumanization Session 3" 10-8-18 The objective and definition of dehumanization in prison is the breaking of minds through oppressive tactics. Once the mind becomes dehumanized and debased conformity to living a life lower than what exist in the animal kingdom will become normal. Provisions are infrequently made to combat dehumanization as releasing permanently disturbed ex-cons that continue to cost tax-payers is accepted. This equates to undeniable proof that the BOP & DOC fail at correction but succeed at being a sanctuary that proliferates recidivism with the underlying objective of continuing the financial scheme in one of Americas most costly & greatest schemes which is the Prison Industrial Complex. To mitigate dehumanization one must be dedicated to self determination and never reinforcing compliance when confronted with the tactics employed to achieve dehumanization. Shifting the system from one of retribution to one of restorative justice will return wholeness and combat social inequities. Once the monetary incentive is proven in investing in positive alternatives backed by empirical data dehumanization can end and restorative justice can begin, but positive return on investment must be demonstrated, for these ideas to take hold.
