Hello My APWA Friends
11-21-19
It's Mia L. White again [ID], from Union Grove WI at Robert E. Ellsworth Correctional Center.
Today is 11-21-19 and 9:02 am. The inmates here have been woken up at 8:00 am for a mandatory cleaning day due to the Madison and much higher authorities coming into the center doing a thorough exspection of the center today. We the inmates have been threatened with tickets or seg. for not cleaning. I feel this is unconstitutional and we the inmates should have a choice and a voice when it comes to these forceful acts.
We are being forced to clean the dust and mold away from the walls when it should've "never" be any. There's a D wing here also and they've been without heat for over a week and in my building though we have heat the windows are in horrible shape and the air still comes through. A lot of people including myself and roommates are forced to sleep in their sweat pants & tops with two blankets just to keep warm at night.
The DOC takes 60% of the money a inmate gets from family & friends and even the state pay received leaving inmates with little to "no" money to survive. A lot of staff are unprofessional and very disrespectful when speaking to inmates. They gossip and tell people's business and put inmates' safety at risk when doing so. Due to the lack of cameras here at [illegible] anyone can be hurt at any time. We are no longer a minimum custody center, because there's lifers here and people who will fight and not care to lose what they want to accomplish.
So many fights go on without staff's knowledge it's sad. I currently gave a statement on a physical assault I witnessed and staff was unaware of for almost 2 days where a young lady had her nose broken by her roommate.
So these are the untold stories on Robert E. Ellsworth. Until next time...
Sincerely: Mia L. White #[ID]
