I Woke Up This Morning with a Desire to Write 1st February 2018 A.P.W.A., Hamilton College 198 College Hill Road Clinton, NY. 13323 ATTN: You have a Permissions Questionnaire and previous work on file for me. Submission: I woke up this morning with a desire to write. Sometimes this penitentiary gets the best of me. The state of Texas has me in solitary confinement, what it calls Administrative Segregation. I'm isolated in my cell 24 hours a day. Sometimes I get to go inside a dog cage where I get to run wild like the animal I am for one hour. They say I'm a "threat to security". In reality I'm just a man trying to maintain in this concrete jungle. This solitude has helped me become a poet and a song-writer. I wrote a sonnet and a song today. I don't write poetry and songs every day. Sometimes this solitude gets the best of me and I shut everything out. Sometimes I'm glad I'm alone. Nonetheless, I woke up this morning with a desire to write. I wrote a sonnet. I wrote a song. And now I'm writing you. Anything to keep me from going insane. You can learn more about me by checking out my picture profile on writeaprisoner.com. I will be released from prison on July 9, 2018. I hope to make music once I'm back on those streets. I walk back and forth in my cell rapping. I don't know if I can title my submission, but if I can, I would like the title to my submission to be: I Woke Up This Morning with a Desire to Write. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna get back to walking back and forth in my cell. Sincerely, Cristobal "Cris" Bazan Texas
