Let Them Work

Today, I went to work holding my own chain
I work, but I don’t get paid
I work, but I don’t choose my job
I work, but I cannot vote
I work, but I better not protest
Today, I went to work holding my owa chain
If I’m sick, I work
If it rains, I work
Extreme heat, extreme cold, I work
When no one else shows up, I work
Today I went to work holding my own chain
I work to grow and cook my own food, but I don’t choose what I eat
I work to make and wash my clothes, but I don’t choose what I wear
I work so the toilets flush and the lights stay on, but it’s not my home
I work so they don’t have to, but I don’t want to
Today, I went to work holding my own chain
I let go; let them work
