- Submission - pg. 1. Thursday 3-4-2021 "Light through Darkness" Hello everyone! I’m sorry that I haven’t written any essays or stories in awhile but I’ve been experiencing some unforeseen highs and lows due to Covid-19. After all I’ve told you about being careful and practicing the necessary precautions, I still contracted Covid-19 and had to be placed inside the gym where they <the administration and medical staff> set up bunk beds for about a hundred (100) to be housed for isolation to treat and monitor our progress or decline. Our vitals were checked twice a day; once in the morning and once at night, our areas were sprayed with decontaminating mist, and we were fed mostly box lunches as to not cross-contaminate other inmates. I was there for 11 days before I beat Covid-19. The next day I was moved from the gym and placed back in my building inside a cell by myself until I was able to be administered another Covid-19 test to make sure I was Covid-free Well, a few days afterward, the gym was shut down and emptied for not meeting the health standards, so the leftover inmates were sent either back to their assigned yards or a medical facility. Since being released from the gym on December 27th, 2020, the infection rate of Covid-19 has decreased tremendously. As of March 4th, 2021, there isn’t any Covid infections or deaths among the inmates or staff, which is why inmates are now allowed to have dayroom, yard <recreation therapy> and one-on-one’s with our assigned clinicians instead of just cell-side visits by them as a so-called “well-fare” check. pg. 2. - Submission - Also, the medical staff has administered the vaccine to almost every inmate on C-yard <the yard I’m on> and will be giving the inmates who had Covid-19 before 90 days the vaccine in just a few days! I am one of the inmates they came to see on 3-3-2021 about taking the vaccine, so I’m anxious and happy at the same time. Once we’re given the first dose, we’ll be given the next dose <21> days later. As far as I know, everyone eligible has received both doses already. We are still required to wear mask & sanitize but I’m definitely fine with that if it keeps me and everyone else safe. Don’t worry, I’ll keep all of you posted on my progress and happenings in prison. Take care and be safe out there! Sincerely Shariff Taylor R.J.D.C.F. - C-15-249 480 Alta Road San Diego, CA. 92179 P.S. Just a few minutes ago, at 4:30 pm on 3-4-2021 I was given the first dose of the vaccine Pfizer and will receive the second dose in or around <21> days from now. I just felt lightheaded and queasy after the shot but other than that, I’m alright.
