My first time incarcerated I was sentenced to death back in 1989, and it wasn't what I perceived it would be, I'm not a innocent man, but you could say prison is what saved my life? Death row is located in Texas back then at a unit called Ellis One, in Huntsville, it's not housing general population/grad.. its now under Tdcj-I.D. When I first got there it was Texas Department of Corrections...its now Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division. Death row was first part of G.P. but it eventually was designated by itself...separated...when I first drove up they still allowed inmates to smoke cigarette's and also have pornography but in 1995 cigarettes were banned along with us being able to have in cell craft items...etc...!! The way the environment was back in 1989, they allowed death row inmates to work, in a garment factory...I choose to for on and off five years, we sewn officers pants, our white uniforms, and also made night wear for children at orphanages...in 1998 an escape of 7 d/e inmates tried to escape...which prompted the administration to move all 460 men on death row to another prison the conditions were better at Ellis One than the new prison which was called first Charles T. Terrell later its now called Allen B. Polunsky. It was 1999 and 2000 they moved us, the design of the cells were not made for long term incarceration, being they were isolation cells, 1- bunk and we didn't have any physical contact like Ellis. We had group recreation and even had the opportunity to work not just in a garment factory but as SSI's? that stands for Staff Support Inmates...the job allowed you to move freely...and it was on wings that other death row inmates lived on this was Ellis Unit, it wasn't allowed at Polunsky...those cells were used a punitive type cells your subjected to constant lighting, they had lights florescent lights with long term to your eyes can cause problems...to make the light brighter TDCJ put a mirror reflector shield behind the four tubes? The pickets also would control the lights...its another method to keep you up and deprived you of sleep...most would spend 24 hours 7 days in a cell like this causing you to have mental problems... I was at Polunsky for 12 1/2 years it caused me to get arthritis in my knees... you weren't given natural sunlight every day... In 2012 I was given a double life sentence, I'm currently in general population. I was working in the kitchen but again medical issues has gotten me medically unassigned at the moment...once I get things done I will be working hopefully? I have more to add, but if possible send me more of these permission pages that I can pass around to others? I like to tell the public where their taxes are going... don't get me wrong there is some good for prisons, but not for where I came from, there is a lot of innocent people here who got treated bad the conditions are bad where I'm at I would write a list after list but is that what the researchers and public want? When I was on death row my #[redacted] its not in use anymore since I'm no longer there, but I left a lof of my friends and brothers in white..you want input send them what you sent me? I still have photo's of myself when I'd go to a visit here to...photos can tell those a lot more..I'll give you all my personal info...I'm not looking for legal... Thank you...
