Public Figures Written From Prison Eric Pepke 4 March 2020 Here are the most public organizations and people I have written from prison since 2016. At the left of each entry is a type code as follows: A Authors, artists, academics, activists, and autonomous agents B Book, booklet, or blog publishers C Companies and corporations not otherwise specified F Free book programs G Government entities and officials J Journalists, journals, and news organs L Lawyers, legal aid, and litigators M Monitoring organizations N Newsletters O organizations not otherwise specified P Political and pressure organizations and their members R Religious organizations and clergy. In the center is the name. @ indicates affiliation. Acronyms are in parentheses. Locations are in square brackets. At the right is my rating as follows. ***** If the aliens don't land here first. we’re doomed **** Excellent *** Good ** Fair * Poor - Worse than useless, actually harmful . Did not reply X Letter was returned or addressee is defunct Some organizations are busy and take a long time. I cannot tell the difference between never replying and not having replied yet. My ratings are based entirely on direct personal experience, but I do not rate poorly simply because someone cannot help me, provided they respond well and timey. Reasonable respondents get three stars. Fewer than three means there is something wrong with them. More shows superior effort. Limited scope does not mean fewer stars. In fact, my experience is that the best organizations are invariably overworked and underfunded. The big organizations with a large media share tend to be worthless. Ratings aside, what is striking is how few respond at all. This indicates widespread apathy amongst the American People. Of around 550 addressees, only ¼ responded at all. The American People seem not to care very much about justice or how their own government treats them when they put them in cages for political reasons. If nothing else, this prison experience has helped me understand what happened in Rwanda and Nazi Germany and the Soviet gulags such better. People just don't seem to care. Note that the likelihood of prison censorship does not affect this conclusion. If even a small portion of the failure to reply were due to this reason, it would be so common as to be widely known, at least amongst the press. Yet I have never seen a news article on the subject.
