You won't know this, but this entry is based immediately after my earlier June 30th 2016 entry. Just this morning (June 3 0th) I came to the library to write an essay on my earlier entry... and that should have been it.
But after turning it in, and being harassed AGAIN by
Officer Escobar, I had to go back and add more to the entry.
Cliff notes here: I wrote an e-mail about how Officer
Huffstuttler was disrespectful to inmates, possibly discriminatory. After 3 0 days, nobody seemed to care, so I wrote an update. I get it printed, and Officer Escobar seems to believe it's HER job to critique it, and confiscates it. In a discussion about who's document it was, I get kicked out of the library that Wednesday.
So by HER involvement, she's now part of the entry. I didn't ASK for her involvement; she is trying to defend another employee, which is none of her business. So now I'm being harassed for addressing an issue on discrimination.
So. , .
Well, let's pick up where I wrote it today, June 30th,
fhj
2016. I'll "pause" where I can to color in the details if necessary. Let's begin.
June 3 0th, 2016: 11:27am as I recount the events. I am out of sequence as far as pages, so this one is written on another page, as opposed to the previous entry from this morning. I just got back from chow; BBQ chicken, which was ok. I might have enjoyed it a little more had I not been so harassed again by Officer Escobar. I anticipated that she would do something; it was predictable. Today, I type an essay on my first e-mail to Recreation, and a second essay on today' s morning entry. I turned both in to the printed out about
9:40am (print time is between 9:30- 9:50 in the morning).
Escobar is there, reading everybody's work- even legal documents.
(PAUSE: It has to be noted here; these officers are
NOT supposed to be reading legal documents. There is a breach of information, because these same officers can turn around and tell the courts what the inmates are preparing...which I believe is quite ILLEGAL. Let's continue,..)
She asks me, "So, you're still writing on the 'evils' of Huffstuttler".
Sounds like she's baiting me to say something, but I respond "That's your opinion". I don't want to say a word to her, because Escobar will twist it and make it look like I'm the problem. To this point, this is harassment- and she's
sticking her nose in business that isn't hers. Does she say to an inmate, "So you think they're gonna believe your lie in court"? It's just that bad.
(PAUSE: Let's be clear here folks, I am NOT trying to talk to this officer. I'd rather not say one word to her, but
I have to turn in my printed material to her. Escobar initiated the conversation, one I didn't want nor appreciated. Where does she get off critiquing my works? After kicking me out Wednesday, what makes her think I even want to talk to her? These are the grounds of harassment, where an officer is persistent in provoking an inmate to an action.
I compared it to a guy doing his legal documents, and
Escobar reads it and mocks their attempt to get back in court.
That's none of her business. Anyway, let's continue...)
It's just that bad, Escobar isn't there to pass any critique on ANYONE'S writing; that's not her job. Anyway, she
READS my works, and comes across my mentioning her name, considering the events of Wednesday. So she calls an inmate orderly, and says, "make a copy of each of these, and give him back his originals". I could have argued that she had no valid reason to do so, and this clearly marks of harassment. But to say anything to her is fruitless; she's not gonna listen to reason, only her own personal agenda to make it difficult for me. She says, as the guy makes the copies, "I don't like my name in it".
F,
Sound advice... then leave me alone!
I didn't start this; she stuck her nose in MY affairs and kicked me out of the library to defend an officer I strongly believed was discriminatory to black inmates. By sticking HER nose in my business, she became PART of the problem. If she'd shut up, and leave me alone, I wouldn't be writing about her involvement.
Does Escobar make copies of legal documents if her name is in it? This has turned into a personal issue; Escobar is now determined to harass me at every possible angle. I warned the Warden Wednesday that this could happen, and here we are.
(PAUSE: There is a lot of sensitive issues here, ones that most on the outside may not know, but it critical to doing time in a constructive way. One, discrimination in ANY form is WRONG. To cover it up is to allow it, and to defend those who do it is even worse. Escobar would have been better served to leave the issue alone; she knows nothing about it, but is quick to take Huffstuttler's side. Too many inmates complain about her for this issue to not be addressed.
Second, Escobar made this personal because she stuck her nose in my business, yet takes offense because HER name is in my works. Hypocritical. Anyway let's continue...)
There are clear rules in what she is allowed to do
yet she ignores them doing what she wants. The guys are right: we've gone from one extreme to another. Ms Gayle, who used to work here, was like an angel. She helped inmates, and was very kind to them. Inmates appreciate that, because it's good to see staff that treat us like people. But we've gone from that extreme to Escobar, which is FAR from what Gayle was.
She's a pain to deal with, she's nosy with everyone's works, and provokes inmates to actions they don't normally make. So now, everyone's saying to write a BPS on Escobar regarding harassment, because it's pretty clear cut now. My writings have been signaled out. Of course, she'll say it was because her name is on the document... it would have never
BEEN there if she'd stop harassing me. Leave me alone!!
So now it looks like I'll have to file a BPS or BP9 on her regarding harassment. I didn't initiate any of these incidents; Escobar confiscated my documents Wednesday, made copies and didn't give them back. Escobar started that conversation today about "evils" of Huffstuttler. I don't want to say one word to her, because there's no wisdom in it.
Escobar has consistently provoked each action, I just want to write to my friends, family and lawyer, something Escobar has now obstructed.
So what do I tell my attorney?: "I couldn't write to you because Officer Escobar doesn't believe I should have her name in it, even though she's harassing me."
Fn
And how long before another retaliation? No question,
I've got strong grounds for a BPS, it's just a matter of time before I'm fed up with the harassing... oh well, Arizona is playing Coastal Carolina in the College World Series... go CC!
11:55am... and at 1pm I'm going back to the library...
(PAUSE: Inmates go through quite a bit, in a very negative environment, they don't need officers to make their day any harder. This creates tension, which officers can always use against us if we say the wrong thing. Yet they can
"mouth off" and we can't speak in kind. The way to offset that is simple... treat people the way you want to be treated. Many officers don't get it. I miss Ms Gayle, she was really one of the "good ones". There are still good officers and staff here, but there are also ones that life here difficult every time you have to deal with them.
Oh, last I saw, Coastal Carolina was up 4-2 at the top of the 8th....GO CC!)
Until next time...
