WHY DID THIS HAPPEN AND NOW WHAT? MAY 8, 2015, during the late evening hours of the yard recreation in A-Block at the Beast known as ATTICA; another senseless Murder occurred. But not at the hands of the prison guards/staff, not directly, but from a puncture wound through his chest or delayed inadequate medical assistance. At this time the name of the brother who died is unknown to me. My condolences goes out to his family & friends. May he Rest In Peace . Why did this brother lose his life? Well, according to the prison yard's TMZ, it was over the use or lack thereof, of one of the seven yard phones; available to approximately 528 prisoners, with only about two hours of recreation ( 7pm to 9pm ). Just to fill you in on how the order of these phones work in ATTICA. There are seven phones in each yard, programed for 15 minutes per phone call. Simple math at 15 minutes per phone call with seven phones, 28 prisoners can use the phone within one hour and 56 within two hours. As a result to the insufficient amount of phones per yard, hundreds of prisoners go without using the phone daily. Now, for anyone reading this, how can seven phones accommodate a yard with, lets say 1/4 of the 528 prisoners in A-Block ? 1/4 of 528 is 132. Check the math to make sure I am correct, Please ! The administration knows good & well what having the insufficient amount of seven phones in each of ATTICA's yard will bring. Violence has been occurring over these yard phones for years. Do they care ? What do you think ? They want/need the violence to continue, so the prison guards' Union can stress the need to hire more C.O.'s to sit around feeding off the lives of incarcerated people. Plus they need the violence to continue so they can justify all the assaults on prisoners. You know the first thing they say when they assault a prisoner; "These people are violent with weapons so we have to be extremely aggressive." Look up or Google George Williams on the Marshall Project/Attica's Ghost. Two Prison guards & Sergeant, brutally beat a young man and lied that he had a shank/weapon on him and was violent. That was their fabricated justifiable reason for fracturing his face and impairing how he walks for the rest of his life. Back to the matter at hand. To add credence to what the yards TMZ story is on why this brother was murdered; the very next day, May 9, 2015, the prison guards implemented a system that prisoners have to give their I.D. cards to the yard prison guard and then must wait until the entire yards is out, to be randomly selected to use the phones. What exactly will implementing this new approach solve? Men still won't be able to use the phone in the yard, it's mathematically impossible. On top of that, it's just another way to be punished by "some" of these prison guards. The very first night I witness the verbal abuse: "Get off the fucking phone stupid," "Get out of here, just because you were here first, don't mean you get on first", "We will start running the phones when we feel like it," "You took to long to hang up# you're not getting your I.D. card back stupid", and so forth. From my 23 years of prison experience, anytime these prison guards are forced to do work by their superior officers that's outside of their hang out comfort zone, they take their frustration out on the prisoners and look to oppress us more then we are already being oppressed. Last I checked, a prison guard was/is a well paid job with full benefits, not a mere title that allows you to hang out during your whole shift; and once directed to do their job it's done with pure vengeance toward prisoners in a harassing & abusive manner. Since last year, men in ATTICA have been told by various prison population representatives that two more phones were approved to be installed in all of the ATTICA yards. But rumor has it, if the violence keep occurring over the phones, either the home phone program will be suspended for 30 days or the prison guards will run the phones. Why not just install more phones to quell the alleged violence over the phones ? The judicial system, society, nor Attica prisoner population is holding all staff accountable, for the 2 prison guards & sergeant who plead guilty to brutally assaulting a disadvantage helpless man. So, why hold the entire prison population accountable for the isolated incidence over the phone's ? Why is ATTICA so hell bent on depriving incarcerated men of whatever they can, just because they can ? Is it because not enough people in society is aware of what goes on behind these walls or is it because they don't care enough? People in prison are very much part of society. Please don't let situations like this brother getting murdered just happen and nothing is done to try to prevent situations like this from re-occurring in the near future. Even if the yards TMZ is wrong and this brother was not murdered over the phone, he was MURDERED and the Administration is aware that violence does occur over the use of the insufficient amount of phones in ATTICA yards. ATTICA has to accept some kind of responsibility for all the unnecessary violence and violent tension among the prisoners population, when something as simple as installing more phones and releasing yard recreation earlier then what the current times are, can be implemented and it's not. Prisoners don't have a responsibility to up hold the law, in some cases, that is why prisoners are in prison, for being irresponsible. But officials who swore to up hold the law, are held to a higher responsibility for any injustice that occurs under their watch. What does it cost to install more phones in ATTICA prison yards ? There are over 30 something surveillance cameras in the visiting rooms, I'm sure the installation of 30 something phones cost the same amount if not less. That brings me to another point, I wonder if the phone company that provides it's services to the prison system is aware of all the violence that is occurring over the lack of phones in these prison yards ? Will anybody reading this bring it to their attention at offendersconnect.com or 800-777-2522. It will only take a few minutes of your time and possibly save lives behind these walls of the Beast called ATTICA. I am well aware that I will be subject to retaliation by the administration here at ATTICA, in one of the many forms of, being assaulted by prison staff, false positive drug test, indecent exposure, verbal treats, unauthorized cell searches, or set up with some kind of contraband (weapons, drugs, escape paraphernalia, etc.). Just for expressing my thoughts/concerns and solutions for one of the many problems here at ATTICA. I'm tired of all the foul nonsense that goes on around here everyday/all day and absolutely nothing is being said or done to rectify it. I'm writing this to bring awareness to what goes on behind these walls and to remedy the problem by simply seeking to have more phones installed in D.O.C.C.S. prison yards. If I continue to stand by like the majority of these prisoners who are scared of the retaliation wrath, and express nothing, I'm just as bad as this beast I'm suffering in and deserve to have a boot on my back & neck* Words from Frans Sital, currently held hostage in this hell of a beast called ATTICA.
